Sometimes you have to try to catch lightning in a bottle.
Yesterday before leaving work, I had a good streak going coming up with the synopsis for the sci-fi screenplay I started working on. I still have a ways to go as I’ve only really laid out most of the first act, but still it felt great to have that rush of ideas come flooding and just getting them down one after another.
I was looking at the Writers Guild site today and came across some screenwriting competitions, including the Academy’s Nicholl Fellowship, which I’ve made my goal to submit to. That means I need to have a finished script by about May, ready to go for submission to the competition. It’s like $45 to enter, but why the hell not?
Also, I was checking out some Writers Guild stuff about joining (eventually) and registering scripts. Pretty exciting to think that I can get there eventually, even just to start poking around to try to get people interested in my script.
I’m just very excited to get going on all this writing. Working with my best friend on our old script has been thrilling enough, and this sci-fi thing I’m working on by myself just keeps growing. It’s funny, because I usually don’t come up with super concrete script ideas like I have been for the sci-fi one. It keeps pouring out of me, and that’s a good thing.
Here’s to writing, and finding a future in it.
